Hierzu werden über ihn, der 1832 nach seiner Gesellenwanderung aus Barr im Elsass kommend, im aufstrebenden Chemnitz Fuß fasste und folgend in nur wenigen Jahren zum größten Arbeitgeber dieser Stadt und zu dem mächtigsten Maschinenbaufabriken Sachsens emporstieg, Auserwähltes aus der Vita Richard Hartmanns, speziell vom Aufstieg zum Mythos Hartmann in Erinnerung gebracht. Darin mit einbezogen sind, neben seiner Wanderschaft, die Entwicklung vom Arbeiter zum Meister, seine Partnerschaftsunternehmen „Hartmann & Illing“; „Götze und Hartmann“, seine eigene Maschinenfabrik Hartmann in Chemnitz wie auch die von ihm 1870 firmierte Aktiengesellschaft Sächsische Maschinenfabrik zu Chemnitz.
